This is the official tournament page. It will be updated progressively and will contain all the information related to the organisation of the competition and participation.
Tournament
We are pleased to announce the 9th edition of the Sassenage Rapid Chess Open, which will take place on June 14, 2026, at the Gymnase des Pies in Sassenage.
This year, two tournaments will be organised:
- Main rapid open tournament, for players rated above 1600 Elo.
- Under-1600 and Youth section.
The participants are expected to arrive from 08:50 to 09:30, the first round will start at 09:40.
Prizes and Rewards
The following prizes will be awarded:
Main Tornament:
- 1st place: 500€.
- 2nd place: 300€.
- 3rd place: 200€.
- 4th and 5th place: 50€.
- 3 Elo categories: 30€ for 1st place of each category.
- Other categories (U18, Veteran, Best Sassenage Player): 30€ for 1st place in each category.
U1600 & Youth Section:
- 1st place: 50€.
- 2nd place: 35€.
- 3rd place: 25€.
- Four age categories (U14, U12, U10 et U8): the winners will receive a €20 a Fnac gift voucher.

Players rated between 1550 and 1600 Elo may choose either the Main or the U1600 section.

Online, before June 12, 2026:
Main tournament:
- 20€ for adults.
- 10€ for young players (U18). Use the promo code ‘JEUNE’ on HelloAsso.
- 10€ for titled players (FM, IM, GM). Use the promo code ‘TITLED’ on HelloAsso.
- Free for previous winners of the first prize in this Open.
U1600 & Youth Section:
- 16€ pour adults.
- 10€ for young players (U18).
From June 13 and on site:
Main tournament:
- 25€ for adults.
- 12€ for young players (U18).
- 12€ for titled players.
U1600 & Youth Section:
- 20€ for adults.
- 12€ for young players (U18).

Venue
The venue:
Address: 8, rue des Pies, Sassenage. GPS coordinates: N45.19954, E5.66740.
The venue is easily accessible from Grenoble by tram A to the “La Poya” terminus, then one stop (“Les Pies”) by bus 19 or 20 (Bus timetables), or within a five-minute walk.

Other Information
The detailed prize distribution will be published in the tournament hall before round 4.
The total prize fund is €1500. This amount may be increased if the total number of registered participants exceeds 120. However, if the total number of participants is lower than 80, the prize fund may be reduced to the level of the 2023 Open.
Games from the top five boards of the main tournament will be broadcast live on Lichess.org. The broadcast link will be available the day before the tournament.
